Things To Do When You're Bored

As we know it, fall has swiftly come upon us. That means as the cold weather starts to come in, we will most likely find ourselves indoors rather than spending time outside of our comfortable dwellings. Here's a list of things you can do if you become bored! Enjoy. :)

Read
You've probably got some time on your hands, how about picking up an old book you've tossed somewhere in your room? How about a magazine or newspaper? Whether old or new, something to read can take up plenty of time. And maybe, reading from the pages of an actual book would be much more wholesome than reading from an ebook on your phone or tablet.

Mood Board
Still haven't read those magazines or newspapers from number one? Why not try creating a mood board? Scour the pages for anything from pictures to words and glue them onto poster board or even just printer sized paper. Fill in any spaces with ribbons, cut fabrics, buttons, stickers, etc... Mood boards don't have to be anything fancy, in fact, they can either tell a story or just show a collage of your interests. Anything goes!

Draw, Color, Paint So many choices among the art spectrum here. Try challenging yourself to draw a picture you haven't tried before. Maybe it's time to start practicing a little with self portraits. Find a coloring book or print off a coloring page online. Paint something on paper (doesn't always have to be canvas) and imagine. You don't have to make anything difficult, just ease up and find simple inspiration to coax your creative side.

Writing I'm a huge fan of writing these days and it's most likely for my music. You can do anything from poetry to paragraph writing. If you're eager, try a short story. Any of these can really let emotion and stress escape your presence. Another thought is journaling. It doesn't have to be formatted like a diary, though. There are fun ways to journal for instance, like an art journal. Similar to a mood board but stuffed into a small book. Create a collage with writing, add some pictures, and decorate with any small embellishments as such.

Scrapbooking, Card Making Now all these ideas from above pretty much sum up scrapbooking! You can even try homemade cards to send out to friends, family, and or, loved ones. Really, it's about finding things in your own place, gathering them up, and making something out of them to cherish and remember, or to share with others.

Cleaning Space For another way to decorate, clean up your space. Tidying can be the little nudge you need to free yourself from boredom. Rearranging can even bring some new air into your dwelling, opening your eyes to find new reasons to get up and do something.

Music Music is such an amazing tool for a couple reasons! One, you can listen anytime, and most anywhere. Two, it sparks imagination and mood shifts in your brain. Basically, music can cure the couch sitting blues away! Listen to music while crafting or cleaning, while exercising, and I could go on and on... Really, music changes how you feel, and can get your system going for the day.

Exercise Did I say exercise? Sorry, not sorry! It can be a struggle for me even, more often than ever. Skipping to the point however, Exercise is stress relieving but doesn't mean you should over exert yourself to feel good. Simply stretching your body out can relieve muscles from any heavy weight and or aching. You can take just a brisk walk around the block (don't forget the music of course!) and those brief five minutes can do wonders for your day. Don't like walking? A fast ride on the bike will do. But I will tell you my exercise secret, swinging! Seriously, age doesn't matter on the swing. Your arms are holding on tight while legs are pumping and stretching out, and that's enough exercise to keep me, well, feeling pretty damn good!

Cooking, Baking Time to try those recipes that look so good on Instagram! Yes, this is one for me, too! Cooking and or baking, also everything in between, is a good way to take away the slow ticking of time. Try some food you've never thought to eat before. Experiment with flavor or ingredients next time to you take to the kitchen. Anything goes here, and it's all in your favor since you get to try it out!

Watch a Show, Movie This is a given but it's worth adding to this list. Find your favorite show or movie and watch it. If that's not enough, go for a little hunt for something similar. Open your horizons with genres and see if you can tolerate something in a different category. There's so much a person has not seen and has yet to view or experience for themselves.

Play a Game You can play a game with your phone or on the internet. Try playing Minecraft single player or looking online for a multiplayer server. There's also the Sims in which you can control other people's lives and wreak havoc! Go old school and play cards or a board game. Challenge yourself in these games (and or others not listed) and see how fun it can be knowing you've rid of the boredom.

Talk Talking to someone can ease you up a whole bunch. Communicating is the ultimate tool for comfort and safety. Call up your friend or a family member you haven't spoken to in a while. Hearing someone's voice is much better than texting, but if that's your only option, go for it; then set up a date to hang out.
